My ancestors include Woodson, Yeardley, Powell, Sandys, Rolfe and many who were here before 1619. They are qualified ancestors.

My 12th Great Grandfather was Sir Hugh Crowder who arrived on the Bona Nova also. He brought my Great Grandmother, and their son Hugh Crowder II (my 11th Great Grandfather) and four Indentured servants. They were given 50 acres per person in your party. They had about 300 acres right across the river from the fort. Yes, they had a large tobacco plantation. He was part of the 1st General Assembly as the tobacco growers representative. Several of my Grandparents prior to him were also Knighted, and in the late 1400's they were in the "Tudors" period of England. The earliest i've studied goes back to the Clan MacGregor of Scotland when the name was "Crowther" and previously MacCrother".

Thomas David and Margaret Jordan are my 10th great-grandparents. One name you didn’t mention was Clay. John Thomas Clay was my 11th great grandfather who arrived in Jamestown in 1613. He later married Anne Nichols and was the ancestor of Henry Clay, known as ‘The Great Compromiser.’ My 6th great-granduncle was Mitchell Clay and his wife was Phoebe Belcher Clay. They lost some of their children to an attack by Shawnee Warriors in 1783 on their land, now known as the abandoned Lake Shawnee Amusement Park in Southern West Virginia.

My great great grandmother was Agnes Gaskins, direct descendant of the first Thomas Gasgoyne who built Gascony on the Northern Neck. Burned to the ground in the Civil War. Every first son was named Thomas, second sons were named Richard. According to family records the family geneaology dating back to the French ancestors, when they were stlll called Gasgoyne, was lost in the fire during the CIvil War. My great grandmother, Agnes's daughter, gave one of her daughters the name Gasgoyne as a middle name. Congressman Paul Trible's family now owns the Gascony property. The Gaskins served honorably in the Revolution and the Civil War.
