  Waffle House is one of the few restaurants that is still open after the bars close at night. People still want to hang out with friends, so they choose to go out to eat before going home for the night.

  My son&apos;s first real job was at a Waffle House when he was in high school. He worked part time after school and full time shifts on the weekends. His manager closed the restaurant to the public for a few hours about a week before Christmas to have a Christmas party for the employees and their families. They had a Santa for the little kids to get photos with, and we all got a free meal. That same Winter, we had a major ice storm that shut down most of the state for about 10 days. Waffle House stayed open the whole time. They mostly fed the first responders, but also anyone who could make it there. We were in walking distance, so my husband and I walked there a couple of times for a cup of coffee and to find out any news we could get from the first responders who came in. My son&apos;s 40 now, and still talks fondly about his time working there.

  Waffle house is WELL known for giving discounts and sometimes free meals to first responders during the natural disasters (not to mention them being the only ones open during disasters and being open all night), one thing nick didn&apos;t dive completely into for the waffle house index is that waffle house literally works with FEMA sharing local conditions, road access, and logistical data and they coordinate food access with emergency crews.

  I live in Florida and despite not having had a hurricane this year, &nbsp;in the past we had two or more every year. A few years ago all TV stations were reporting the weather. &nbsp;Meteorologists showing charts of the intensity of the storm, suddenly a report came that a Waffle House in the area had closed. That was scary! That is when you really pay attention.

  Georgia , in the US, was hit by &nbsp;a huge hurricane.Power was out and trees were down in the roads. Waffle House was the only place open, other than hospitals and police stations. The workers had come in from surrounding towns and had been working 3 days straight, taking turns taking naps. We went there for our first hot meal in 3 days to eat.

  The waffle is not the most expensive menu item it&apos;s just the most profitable for cost per unit to make they also have T-bone steak and eggs

  So I was a Firefighter and part of my job was inspecting new businesses. I got to inspect a WH and talk to the company. They pride themselves on being able to serve a hot meal 365 days a year 24 hours a day. You can always eat at a Waffle House. They also have a business plan that allows them to be up and running within 24 hours of a disaster, so that rescuers and civilians can have a hot meal… You can always eat at a Waffle House. They get a pretty bad rap, but it’s diner food, and they are a pretty great company…
