  Years ago I had a new fuse board fitted. The fuses to the kitchen kept tripping. I checked all the connections, all appliances, pulled all the sockets out and checked them. Eventually traced the fault to a defective 2.5 cable &nbsp;imbedded in the staircase wall. The cable was literally smouldering when I got to it. If I hadn&apos;t had a new fuse board with more sensitive fuses the place would have been ablaze. Just a defect in the cable.

  Curious not mentioned, that nowadays electrical installs can be very complicated with multiple inverters, hybrid, many battery banks, off grid and on grid circuits, phase wild sub systems, multiple sources and it can become difficult to &apos;switch off&apos; since there is no longer a single master point. So occasionally, you have to work live but if you know what you&apos;re doing, with all right tools and know exactly the sequence, it&apos;s never an issue. From my experience of shocks, its never when working with live equipment, it&apos;s always when working with completely isolated &apos;dead&apos; equipment that transpires not be! About 10 years ago my wife got me for Xmas a Schnieder live wire non contact tester, it gets used most days and still on its original battery, my most important bit of kit in my belt! &nbsp;<br>I do a fair bit of training now, I teach how to minimize risk, something that is missing in our industry. So for example when wires are pulled through, the second they stick out, they cut off with a big pair of cutters in one big clump, all the same identical length, no exposed copper. I don&apos;t dismantle to test anymore (so I don&apos;t need to test the testing), the install is all pre-planned on a diagram &nbsp;that is taped to the wall so all of us are wiring in a very strict sequence so if there is a cock up, one circuit does not cross bleed. I no longer make lights the circuit (feeding switches), those days have gone, the switches are the circuits and they feed the lights, tons safer! (you can work with the lights on, safe that the wires are dead). I separate the bonds from the Pc&apos;s and earths so that whilst you are installing the Pc can&apos;t become live from pillock boiler/pump engineers, in fact there are about 20, too many to mention but there is an entire electrical contracting risk management structure way way more advanced than eFixx imply. Sadly, electrical contractors are by nature, a couple guys in a van, they are not used to putting together a risk management structure. AND... in all fairness why should they! I know some days I just sit in front of my CAD system, AI in overload mode thinking WTF! electrical contracting has gone a long way from connecting wires!
