  The step-sibling thing in this one doesn&apos;t bother me much because if I remember correctly they were step-siblings for a very very short time and didn&apos;t grow up together. They weren&apos;t &quot;raised&quot; as siblings. So in this particular scenario, I&apos;m not too bothered by it. It&apos;s not ideal but it doesn&apos;t ring alarm bells in my head.

  Also in case you&apos;re thinking of watching &quot;10 things I hate about you&quot; that is also loosely based on taming of the shrew by Shakespeare so don&apos;t do that one if you&apos;re trying to avoid books too. 😂😂

  “Why doesn’t he just come out?” Lyn forgetting homophobia exists 😂 and coming out is NOT a thing in the 90s, in reality people lose their entire livelihoods and he could genuinely be expelled depending on the school, and blacklisted from other private schools. Yeah they call it out directly in this movie but it was a big deal at the time to have a gay character who was seen as a cool guy and not instantly degraded (or killed, if it weren’t a romcom) after he was outed. If you’’re over 30 you should remember how bad it was before marriage was legalized in 2015. We take so much for granted now because so many people have no idea what it was like.
