When I like somebody, I avoid them. Unless I don’t like them - then I avoid them too. Good luck

This is pretty much my experience too. I tend to be more flirty and playful when I'm not that attracted to the girl I'm talking to. I'm more relaxed, more unafraid of messing up, and less anxious. I'm more "myself". But when I really like her, I am way more stiff. My heart races, I stutter more, and my mind ramps up faster than I can speak. Shit sucks. And then when I see someone I like, my more extroverted friend tells me "just talk to her". Bro, you have no idea how difficult that is for me.

sometimes you are rejected, not because of who you are, but because he person you try to connect to for some reason you don't see, doesn't have the capacity. My advice is to be sensitive. Don't be pushy. Some people need personal space. Find a good cause outside your self and stay with that. Then you will attract people with the same intrests. And be nice.

Ha!, the way you said “You’re not being rejected, you just think you are” hit me so hard I almost dropped my tea because wow, if that isn’t the story of my entire adult life, starting from the day I waved at a man who was actually waving at the person behind me and my brain went “Well, that’s it, Luise, pack your bags, you’re officially unlovable,” but honestly the real plot twist came years later when I realized half the things I called rejection were just me catastrophizing like a Netflix drama queen, because one time I sent a message to a colleague and they didn’t reply for two hours and I spiraled into “Oh dear, they hate me, they’re forming a committee to fire me,” only for them to respond with “Sorry, was heating soup,” and I had to sit there like “Good grief, girl, relax,” and ever since then I’ve been retraining my brain like a stubborn puppy, telling myself “Okay… breathe… maybe people are just busy,” and it’s wild how communication gets easier when you stop assuming every silence is a personal attack, because most of the time it’s not rejection, it’s just life happening, and once I understood that, whew, my confidence skyrocketed, my productivity stopped collapsing every time someone took too long to reply, and now when my brain tries to panic I just go “Hmm, interesting…” and keep living my life like the main character I am, cheering for myself like a slightly chaotic but very supportive best friend.

rejection sensitivity is not just insecurity. the brain processes social exclusion in the same regions as physical pain. which means the fear of rejection is literally felt in the body. avoidance feels like relief in the moment but trains the brain to treat connection as a threat

This is fascinating and so eye-opening. Now, later in life, I express my affection and appreciation openly for people I am into because it doesn't come along that often. This is partly down to finally unmasking my autism and it feels quite natural. It is very touching to hear how protective we all are of our hearts when it comes down to it. I really like your videos.
