  So the way the entries work was:<br><br>1 entry per year from 12 to 18, and they are cumulative, so that’s a minimum of 7 entries at age 18.<br>1 entry per food ration, (which is food for 1 person for 1 year.) &nbsp;They are also cumulative.<br><br>Gale takes rations for himself, his mother, and 3 younger brothers, so that’s an additional 5 entries per year.<br>Gale has done that every year from 12 to 18, so that’s 35 entries. (5 x 7)<br>Add the 7 mandatory entries and the 35 entries for food rations that Gale took, and it equals 42 entries.

  The green they refer to when Katniss and rue are going to light the fires refers to the wood not being dried out, green wood is still wet on the inside so it&apos;ll smoke like crazy instead of ignite with flames compared to older dry wood.

  The &quot;careers&quot; (how much of a career is it really, and also, &quot;volunteers&quot;, they&apos;re basically brainwashed, they don&apos;t have a lot of choice there either) are usually from districts 1, 2, and 4. Cato&apos;s reaction at the end makes it clear, he was also just a kid, who didn&apos;t realise fully what was going on, the careers are also victims of the hunger games. <br>The Capitol pits the districts against each other, making the career districts hated by the rest, as if districts 1 and 2 are actually truly choosing to go to the hunger games. I always wonder how that works internally. Like, do they have training for all kids in the district and then pick the best fighters to volunteer? Do they have a group of kids they train and brainwash? And if so, are those kids selected randomly or are those kids with no family to object?<br><br>The winner stays in their district. They do have to go back to the Capitol every year as trainer and to raise funds for the tributes and for things like interviews and such. Haymitch&apos;s addiction makes sense if you think about how he has been reliving his games every year for decades.<br>The winner also gets food for the district as a whole, as well as for their family. So that makes the careers even more likely to win. They come from a district where they train, so they win more often, so they have more food, so they grow better and stronger, and are more likely to win. Katniss in the book thinks about how the kids from district 12 are almost always kids from the poorest part of the district, who have been malnourished their entire lives, and have had to put in their names to get more food every year, so their names are in the lottery more times, so they almost never win. The hunger games disproportionately target the least privileged people. It&apos;s a apt metaphor imo.<br><br>In the book it&apos;s also mentioned that children of victors are almost always reaped, making it clear that the reaping is rigged in some way, to make it more dramatic. A former victor having to train their own kid, be in the spotlight and do interviews and fundraising while their own kid is literally fighting for their life on every screen. <br>The movie does show everything is being watched, but it doesn&apos;t really show that tribute&apos;s family and friends are interviewed at some point during the games, and how that can help during the games, interesting stories or sob stories to garner sympathy and sponsors etc.

Also Marvel (jack quaid) is in The Boys he&apos;s hughie.

But that was like a couple months after her father was gone if I am recalling correctly and so she was essentially starving to death and peeta saw it which was why he did what he did but he wasn&apos;t physically allowed to walk over to her to give it to her cuz then he would have been in even more trouble with his mother who had already beat him for just burning the bread and possibly the peace keepers (that part i don&apos;t fully remember) for giving out extra food without the payment or the trading in of names.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEmdT_hP8ag&amp;t=3010">50:10</a> the movies never really do a good job explaining but they end up going back to their districts and they live in a specific section that was built for them called the victors village and only the people who win/ their families can live in there so until this point for 12 the only one living there was haymitch. And the capitol pays them and feeds them it&apos;s essentially to reinforce the idea that as long as they play by the captols rules they are &quot;generous&quot; and will treat their people well.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEmdT_hP8ag&amp;t=452">7:32</a> why children are picked is never specifically mentioned that I can recall in the original books or movies but logically if you think about it it&apos;s a way to intimidate the adults when the games started out because they are put in constant fear that their kids are unsafe, as well as a way to ensure generations of mistrust in the younger kids as they grow who will then teach that mistrust to their kids cuz they will either survive the games and not trust the other districts because of it or will have had a sibling or someone that they lost in the games to another district so then getting those people to work together of it came down to it then becomes harder making the likely hood of them banning together against you less likely. While also keeping the youth (who are usually the ones who are hot headed enough to try to demand change) preoccupied and unable to have time to think of anything else cuz every year they have to worry if they are gonna be picked for the games or not.
