High fructose corn syrup replacing sugar in soft drinks in the early/mid 80s was a biggie.

My mom talked about how they walked everywhere back then. Now ,in my area everyone drives everywhere even if the grocery store is right up the street

They were skinny because it was real food, unlike the garbage we’re forced to eat now.

As a kid in the 70s we really never had junk food in the house or snacks on a regular basis.

Born in 1964....And yes, we were all thin back then. It is shocking to see how many people who are now not just overweight but clinically obese, many of whom are only in their 20's and 30's. This has all happened within the last 30-40 years. Stay away from all seed oils, fast food and all ultra processed foods. Read labels on every single item before you buy it.

No, I am a gen x'er. People definitely ate fast food, pizza, and "junk food" in the 1970s and 80s. Most people were not eating directly from farms in any literal sense. Grocery stores were already full of processed foods: boxed cereals, TV dinners, canned soups, white bread, soda, frozen meals, snack cakes, etc. Fast food chains were already widespread and growing quickly. This is what changed over time: 1) portion sizes increased, 2) eating frequency increased,(snacks, drinks, delivery), 3) daily movement decreased, 4) food became constantly available and socially normalized as entertainment.
