  Already in Saltburn that this director can't understand class struggle; strangely, in each of her films, the upper classes never commit injustices on their own; they are always "manipulated" by the lower classes, who fantasize and are jealous instead of denouncing anything. It's as if she sees class struggle as a kink.

  Emerald Fennell hasn't reread "Wuthering Heights" since she was 14, and it clearly shows. It's disturbing to think that THIS was her creative vision for Bronte's novel at that age.

  I personally think that it was a big missed opportunity to not have Dev Patel and Mia Goth portray the roles of Cathy and Heathcliff. Also, I didn't like how the main antagonists/villains of this movie were portrayed by non white people.

  Making the only two POC characters the villains, dumbing down the entire story and neutering Bronte’s complex messaging, and the weird sexualisation of Jacob Elordi throughout the press tour have all made this a pinnacle of bad, hollow, filmmaking and exposed EF (and MR) as airheads.

  One aspect which disturbed me about Emerald Fennell's version is that they had Isabella being aroused by Heathcliff's abuse of her, when the novel clearly depicted it as an abusive relationship, and how Heathcliff would always love Cathy more.

  This reminds me of the romantization of Lolita. Reading the novel, I assumed it was a thriller in the perspective of the abuser like &quot;You,&quot; but the movies had made it into a romance film.<br>If Lolita ever gets a remake I&apos;d prefer to be in Dolores&apos; perspective with the eerie naration of her perpetrator.
