Fun fact: when the lord mayor of London is replaced, he is banned from entering the City of London for a time. Imagine losing an election and then being banished from the city entirely.

To be pedantic, the City of Westminster includes what were the boroughs of Marylebone and Paddington prior to 1965. The City and Liberty of Westminster was only a much smaller area to the south of the modern borough, so in much the same way most of London isn't London, most of Westminster isn't Westminster....

The deal was struck in 1067 and has been undone and their privileges stripped 7 times, but in 1690 they sealed it and got their liberties and power back forever
