I had this surgery on my right foot a week ago. I've been elevating and icing and avoiding getting up too often. I used the pain medication for two days and haven't really felt anything I would call significant pain at all - maybe a level 2 or 3. I'm getting the stitches removed next week and am looking forward to rehab. 4 months without playing golf but in the long run, much worth it.

Thanks for sharing your story. I am a. I had the same operation on my right big toe 2 months ago and I have to say that I am a bit discouraged to learn that you still experience quite a bit of stiffness 13 months post op and also some pain with some motions.

Thank you so much for this video. I am three months out after surgery with a very stiff toe and I was feeling rather discouraged. <br><br>I found the other videos that you showed to give your progress and now that I see this one I realize you just put it up today !<br><br>This was very helpful for a realistic expectation for me. I know everyone is different, but this was good to see. Thank you again.

For 3 years I did research on this, and every time I got the same statistic below:<br><br>"Over 90% of patients report good to excellent outcomes and significant pain relief following great toe fusion surgery (first MTP joint fusion). Studies indicate that 80-95% of patients experience high levels of satisfaction, with the procedure effectively reducing or eliminating pain for a vast majority."<br><br>That's good enough for me to do it. I was in chronic pain every day, even when a sheet or blanket touched my toe. I did the surgery 2.5 weeks ago--- I'm praying to god I'm one of the satisfied 90%. I just want to stop being in pain that makes me stop and wince every single day.

It looks like you only gained a few degrees of motion from that surgery. Thanks for sharing your journey.

I got this surgery. The pain in recovery was excruciating, and 3 months later I have more pain than before the surgery; not only when walking, but it hurts all the time, and if I touch it or bump it, it feels like a knife stabbing my toe. The doctor didn't respond to the constant pain-------- but as for the increased pain when walking, she told me to get carbon fiber inserts for my shoes!!!! The same damn thing she told me to get before the surgery that didn't work to reduce the pain!!!!. So if you can 'put up' with the walking pain, I'd suggest you think long and hard before getting this surgery.

Hello, I Did Not go for the fusion but requested the minimally invasive route. Dr went in from the side and ground off the bump that was restricting my upward movement and providing me the icepick pain starting from my toenail up thru the joint. I have great upward and downward mobility. So, I suggest you start there vs the fusion.

Thank you for all your videos. Is PT important for recovery? and how much do you think on average is need it?

What was your ROM change in degrees? What did you find more beneficial, the increased ROM or the decrease in pain? How does the increased ROM benefit you (if the increase was mild)?

I was offered the surgery today. My gate is altered. I noticed I keep my toe in the air so it doesn’t Dorsey flex which I was unaware of but now I’m paying attention to it. I can’t do lunges. I can’t do planks I can’t do push-ups I can’t go on the floor and go reach and grab something under a table like pushing forward so are you able to do planks push-ups and lunges now? I do them now and it just flares up for like months.
