  I remember reading somewhere that although &quot;And I Am Telling You&quot; is initially about Curtis, the climax of the song shifts to her begging to be loved, embraced, and accepted by the world.<br><br>It&apos;s interesting that initially Effie passes away at the end of Act I (a parallel to Florence Ballard), and Jennifer Holliday almost didn&apos;t take on the role (she quit TWICE) because she felt the character was being mishandled.<br><br>So, I&apos;ve always loved that with the changes made, Effie&apos;s eventual triumph and redemption is a tribute to Florence, who never got the stardom and success that she truly deserved. 🙏🙏🙏

  You hit it on the head with Curtis. Women were like everybody to him, tools to reach his goals. Effie ws really in love but he picked her because he saw she had the power in the group. Once that power was completely gone he discarded her and made Deena his trophy.

  Why did it take Lorrell 12 years to be fed up with being a side chick? Who remains a side chick for 12 years? Lorrell was still young. She could have been left and found someone else.
