This was one of the few Disney princess movies that allowed both male and female leads to be competent and drive the story without diminishing or dumbing down the other.

A detail many people miss, is that the lantern that Rapunzel reaches out to lift back into the sky is the same one the King and Queen released. The lantern found their child.

Fun fact: Apparently all the women at the studio were asked as to what they imagine the most handsome man to look like and from that, they designed Flynn.

Key hidden feature ish - every time Mother Gothel kisses Repunzel, she kisses her hair because thats the thing she loves the most

Every time Mother Gothel says "I love you most," and shows "affection," she's doing it to Rapunzel's hair, whereas Eugene moves Rapunzel's hair out of the way. Love the details. Small but important.

2:45 Hear me out: I lowkey understand why they just boiled the flower to save the Queen, and I still blame Gothel. THEY DIDN’T KNOW HOW TO USE IT! It’s a rumored miracle cure that no one but Gothel has ever seen or used before. Normally, with plants, you cook them for consumption or turn it into a balm in some way. If Gothel had taught them to sing the song instead of hiding and just watching them uproot it, she might’ve saved herself, the Queen, helped the people of the kingdom, and maybe even gotten herself a position as the royal apothecarist or something. Win-win-win-win, but no, she’s greedy.

3:55 wdym this is a dark spin on Rapunzel? In the original fairytale, her parents literally sell her for some salad and the prince falls off the tower
