  Two things: one I’m old enough that almost all of my art training was working from life, so I never rely 100% on photos. I’ll use them to figure out details, but my images either come from the model the Landscaping in front of me or my memory. Two I did this process of curing my taste several years ago kind of by accident. I had a teacher who said pay attention to what you really like in Art so I started a folder called inspiration and when I saw things, I was browsing my computer. I grabbed them. I would either screen cabinet or download it with information about what it was so some of these images were just pictures and I was looking for a project to summarize my year in a particular course and I thought you know I’ve got this in inspiration folder and I dumped it into a slideshow and I started sifting and sorting in order to make a video and what came out of. That was so amazing! I got five or six themes that I’m really interested in as a painter and that probably needs narrowing down more because I’m probably chasing one or two of them in any given painting, but it’s helped me move to become more of an intuitive painter which is much more fun and exciting because I don’t always know where I’m going. A long time ago an art colleague encouraged me to be hanging my work around my home even in it’s unfinished stages. He said “it’s really important to feed your own work back into your mind”

  I love that you learning dancing! I really want to get into dancing, such a great activity &nbsp;alongside with art! Especially &nbsp;since we artists don’t move around much.❤

  This video is exactly what I needed, Thank you. I quit painting because of chronic pain and the feeling of I was just a photocopier, I could create only from direct photo reference but I didn&apos;t have the knowledge of how to build human figures from the ground up, how to light them etc.

  Hi Chelsea, &nbsp;Thank you for your videos, really helpful advice and much appreciated. Amazing that you find the time to do these! &nbsp;I retired recently and now have don&apos;t know how I found the time to go to work! &nbsp; I&apos;ve been painting on and off throughout my life with no formal training, and what you said about other people loving your portraits when you don&apos;t, &nbsp;rings true absolutely. &nbsp;I want to paint more frequently, but not the way I used to because it is not satisfying to just copy photos. &nbsp;I downloaded your workbook and will give it my best shot. &nbsp;PS. &nbsp;(I also purchased some Rosemary &amp; Co. brushes, I think you should have your own Signature set just quietly!) &nbsp;Here in Australia we have &nbsp;the annual &apos;Archibald Prize&apos; for portraits and I&apos;m hoping following your advice will help me reach the point where I am capable of producing a portrait worthy of entry.   Wish you could have been my teacher. All of my teachers wanted to box me into what they&apos;re doing, even shaming me when I said I want to paint what is in my head. They wanted me to do something they did, they way they&apos;ve done it.
