Being content with what you have is the greatest form of inner wealth. It’s peace. ❤

The best thing you can do for yourself is not caring what other people might think about you.

I wear a lot of Amazon Essentials clothes, take my lunch to work daily, drive an 8 year old car, etc etc..........and in a few months I will retire mid-50s with a 2 comma portfolio and a fat pension. Tons of people think I'm cheap or broke......not knowing I could buy and sell them a dozen times over. Their opinion of me doesn't matter, and certainly won't matter when they are still grinding at work while I'm hiking a mountain trail on a Tuesday because I no longer have to work.

My aha moment was when I realized that we, the working class, are just trying to impress each other. If no one ever saw our clothes, jewelry, purses, cars, etc., would we own as much? Who are we really dressing and buying things for? Two good questions. Thanks for the really good message.

I look broke, but I have savings, not debt. In 2025 I needed extensive dental work done. Because I had been keeping my expenses low, I had the money to get the work done. Oh, and because I paid by check instead of credit card, I got a discount. I was triple blessed. I still had savings left. I did not incur debt. I qualified for a discount. ( :

Even my parents gave me a hard time growing up, saving every penny I got, telling me i was being cheap, not being a good American "consumer" (in jest, not in a mean way). My nana complaining she would give me birthday cash and I would put it in a bank instead of spending it 😂 spending every snow storm hitting the neighborhood with my shovel.

Retiring next year at 45! No regrets 😊

One month into my no-buy year and not to sound like a pick-me, but I'm loving it so far. I didn't realize how much mental acrobatics and energy I was spending every time I was contemplating buying something. Now the answer is simply "no", and it's end of discussion. It's so peaceful.

I really needed to hear this. My income has quadrupled (maybe even quintupled?) from where I started 7 years ago. So, I started with upgrading my wardrobe, dining out, going on vacation (which I don’t regret them, as they’re memories I will always cherish) etc. But, realized that I could have saved up over 100k towards a much nicer living space and towards my wedding, instead of settling for something cheaper. Having nice things is nice, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s just “stuff”.

Edit: I don’t need people coming out of the woodwork and spewing their absurd ideas of what to do with my money that I work for. That’s the reason you work for yourself is to optimize your life and experiences. The video has provided enough insight and anyone who comes in and chimes in about how to spend my money, when I haven’t asked for your opinion, will be blocked and removed and (if persistent) will be reported for harassment.
