  The reason Jenny’s only advice to Forest is to run away to stay safe is because that is exactly her own coping mechanism. She spent her entire life running away from her abusive father and all her problems.

  This movie was basically about the most controversial events in the later half of the 20th century in America Through The Eyes of somebody too innocent to understand controversy

  When they were children, we see that Jenny prays to be turned into birds... while still with her abusive father... we later see how, as an adult, in a scene where she attempts suicide... Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird" plays. A very strong parallel. And close to the end at Jenny´s grave... birds fly.

  Tom Hanks and Gary Sinise reunited the following year in Apollo 13 (1995), which is highly recommended. They re-teamed again for a short scene together in The Green Mile (1999), also highly recommended.

  Some historical things younger people miss in this movie are during his football days, that was supposed to be legendary coach Bear Bryant at Alabama, George Wallace did run for president and was shot at a rally, and when Forrest was on the Dick Cavett show, he was giving John Lennon the lyrics to the song "Imagine"

  The child born from Jenny's one night stand with Forrest turned her life around. Becoming a mother made her finally understand what true love is and that's how she decided to come back to Forrest ask his hand in marriage. Sadly it came a little late for them to enjoy a long happy life together.

  Jenny didn't keep Little Forrest away from him. She sent Forrest a letter but he was running for like 3+ years lol. He came to see her when he stopped running across country.

  Tom Hanks's younger brother, Jim Hanks, served as his running body double in the movie, to reduce the intense physical strain on Tom and to allow the lead actor to focus on filming other dialogue and emotionally demanding scenes.

  One of my favorite hidden details is that Lieutenant Dan&apos;s fiancée is Vietnamese, which symbolizes that he has made complete peace with his past and his &quot;Vietnamese destiny,&quot; presenting the serene man who attends Forrest&apos;s wedding.<br><br>Initially, in the book, Jenny dies of Hepatitis C. The film doesn&apos;t mention the name of the disease to allow for the possibility of interpreting it as HIV (the abandoned sequel was even going to have Forrest&apos;s son be HIV-positive).<br><br>The fact that Forrest has no other relationship besides Jenny stems from the author&apos;s desire to contrast two paths to love: the obvious and the initiatory journey. Forrest immediately grasps the beauty of the heart in every scene on the bus and finds his love and his best friend there. He recognizes friendship; he recognizes love. Jenny didn&apos;t have the opportunity to develop how to recognize love in her childhood, but she carries this unique quality that makes her the one who acts differently from the others on the bus. Forrest sees this. Jenny must take the difficult path to understand that she carries this, and must deconstruct what she saw in her childhood by repeating the mistakes, identifying them, and revealing herself in the process. Lieutenant Dan follows the same path. Forrest immediately becomes friends with Bubba because they are similar, but he builds a friendship with Lieutenant Dan because Lieutenant Dan must first move away from the codes of war to approach the codes of the heart. The moment Jenny and Dan meet, they both carry the purity that Forrest taught them.
