  He chose to leave one box unopened because it kept him anchored in reality.  A reminder of who he was.  A job to do.  A reason to live.  Purpose.

  The wind direction plays a big factor of the story. He didn't leave the island until the winds pointed him out to the ocean (and helped his makeshift sail). And at the crossroads, you see the wind blows in the direction of the lady and her truck. So it's where he goes next.

  I love the ending of Cast Away when Chuck turns around and looks at us, as if to say "what would you do?". This film reminds us not to take life and the people we love for granted.

  Honey. When he lost Wilson. Was heartbreaking. This was the only friend he had for like 5 years. And it’s completely inanimate.

  The fact that Tom Hanks gained 60 pounds before the movie, and lost 55 pounds during the recording says a LOT about his dedication as an actor.

  &quot;I&apos;ll be right back&quot; is something you should never say because you never know. I always say I&apos;ll be back as fast as I can. Watching this always makes me think about all the things we take for granted. Tom Hanks is a great actor.

  The final scene, at the crossroads, when the score comes up…incredible filmmaking. Not one line of dialogue.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKz0MBcHoTY&amp;t=1006">16:46</a> There obviously is search-and-rescue going on but a key thing a lot of reactors miss is the red device attached to Chuck&apos;s life vest that gets caught on plane debris and detaches: it&apos;s an EPIRB (emergency position-indicating radio beacon) that broadcasts the last known location of the wreckage. Without this vital info since the EPIRB didn&apos;t have a chance to be activated, SAR would be searching blind - and as Chuck says, the search area is twice the size of Texas. Without it, he was lost forever. There&apos;s a reason he so desperately reaches for the EPIRB when it detaches as the life raft ascends to the surface.

  Chuck tried to plan his future with Kelly including all of his time off for holidays. &nbsp;He tried to plan his engagement, telling Kelly to wait until New Years Eve to open her present. &nbsp;After Chuck is cast away, he lives each day in the present, making decisions in the moment, and by the end of the film, he is driving across Texas with no plan or destination. &nbsp;It is interesting that he looks most at peace and meets a new woman when he is living life day by day.
