Look around, all that stuff used to be money, and all that money used to be time… That’s my favorite minimalist saying

In a world that constantly asks for more, being enough is an act of rebellion.

As the ancient philosopher Epictetus famously noted, "Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants."

I was dirt poor a number of times. Poverty, by far, is the greatest teacher. I go days spending nothing, just out of habit. Hardship can be positive.

    1) Pay yourself first. Target at least 15% of income saved/invested.
2) Avoid debt like it’s dog poop on the sidewalk.
3) If it’s working well, don’t replace it.
4) If it’s not an item for emergencies and you haven’t used it in more than 5 years, sell it, donate it or pitch it.
5) Something new comes into your house, at least one thing goes out.
6) If it’s not bringing joy or security to you and/or a family member, don’t buy it.

We were middle class with 3 kids. My mom didn’t work until I started high school. My parents were frugal and we didn’t get all the things, even had to wait for new shoes or clothes at times. Turns out my parents actually did very well and dad paid off the house the year I graduated. They did that on that house in 12 years. Dad also owns several pieces of land. Dad retired at 58. I will never have to financially take care of my parents and I thank them for that. I have learned well from the best also.

It's not about what you make, never was. It's about what you spend.
