I started at 42 earning about $80K a year, contributing as much as I could to my 401(k) and investing consistently. I made plenty of mistakes along the way, but I stayed patient and kept learning. By 55, I had built a portfolio of around $2 million. Looking back, the biggest lesson was starting early, staying consistent, and giving my money time to grow. For anyone getting close to retirement, it's never too late to take a thoughtful look at your finances and make a plan for the years ahead. 🙏

I started investing 10% of my income EVERY MONTH in my 20s. I retired at 56 on August 1, 2018 with $1.8M in my 401K. I received the first of 10 annual pension deposits August 2018. My last deposit ends August 1, 2027 but covers my expenses until August 2028. I’m now 64. I haven’t touched my investments and my 401k is now valued at $2,824,000 as of yesterday. I will file for social security at 70. Why do I share this? The earlier you start the better prepared you will be for retirement.

I left my doctor job to homestead and crochet full time. Husband and I bought an old pot grow property and are off grid because we couldn’t afford PG&E at our last house. I’m living in a camper and rebuilding a cabin am doing land clearing every day… but a million times happier than being a doctor. We will be financially free in 5 years and are planning on making this a resort like bed and breakfast where we host mountain biking and white water rafting. Unconventional but … fun!😊
