  I watch a LOT of videos about Japan. This is one of the absolute best. I haven’t heard most of this advice anywhere. So just a huge thanks for it!

  I go to Japan once to twice a year. My best friend is Japanese, she happens to be my ex-wife. I absolutely could retire in Japan but the visa situation would make that prohibitive.

  You are correct that &quot;work&quot; and &quot;education&quot; are the two best visa options. &nbsp;<br><br>But just showing up in Japan and getting a job teaching English is not as easy as it used to be.

  Here is something I have posted before. &nbsp;If you truly have a dream to teach, as it is both rewarding and fun, read on. &nbsp;Overseas opportunities:<br><br>I turned 72 in April. Born and raised in New York City, Long Island. &nbsp;I left for Japan to work and teach on U.S. bases there. Started in 1984. After 9 years, I left that job and worked teaching art and IB art at St. Mary&apos;s International School in Tokyo. &nbsp;Retired in 2019. &nbsp;I am debt-free, owning a nice condo with a large roof garden. We have been traveling every 2 months or so for 3-6 days throughout Japan and East Asia, as well as Hawaii. &nbsp;Healthcare here is brilliant and inexpensive. Food is healthy and cheap. Transportation systems are so good that I do not need a car. &nbsp;My monthly costs are about $1200 US. &nbsp;Damn cheap. I walk 6 kilometers a day, rain or shine. &nbsp;BMI is 24. Healthy and happy. &nbsp;Never looked back. Do not miss it at all. Got questions? Ask! I always respond!<br><br><br>The apprehension of mortality pales in comparison to the profound regret of a life unfulfilled. Embrace existence with open arms!

  Like you said Japan is populated with many senior people. &nbsp;I could only imagine they do not want additional foreigners retiring in Japan.

  After staying 3 months in Tokyo and Osaka last year, I&apos;m looking at doing a Japan/Vietnam/USA split (with some Argentina trips) for the foreseeable future. No visa runs or worries, just always moving back to a place I love and miss.

  Japan does not have a retirement visa option for foreigners. Plain and simple. Marriage or family is the one way I am aware of. Plus the fact they are tightening up things due to concerns about foreigners disregarding the culture. End of story.

  I really like that you started out with visas. &nbsp;It&apos;s so tiring seeing these people upsell it -- own your own home in Japan!! -- without mentioning that there is no &quot;homeowner&quot; visa or &quot;retiree&quot; visa.
