Man, don't apologize for the emotions. Keep cooking and sharing recipes. Keep your videos genuine, like this one. Your followers will continue to recreate them, and enjoy your family's heritage. Your channel is pure gold for traditional Mexican foods!

You opened up with the scene of picking through the beans with your grandma as a kid. I'm an expat Japanese in Chicago and my mom literally made me do that as a kid when she made adzuki beans with rice. Food transcends cultures. Food = feels. Thank you for evoking memories and being honest with your feelings. No apologies needed!!

Dude I love how genuine you are. You getting emotional about your grandpa is a perfect example of this. There are a handful of recipes my grandma taught me that give me so much joy to make. Her memory lives on through those dishes. Major props!

"that's what food does to you, it brings people back that aren't there anymore." beautifully said Johnathan.. that made me tear up too 💙I learned to cook mostly with my grandfather and I take so much joy knowing that I get to carry that through my life and share it with other people I love.

Why am I a 45 year old Hispanic woman watching a frijoles de la olla recipe? Because my my passed away before she taught me how. I can't remember what she put them them. Onion & bay leaves is all i can remember so I like to watch other's recipes so that one day, I might get it to taste like hers. I really appreciate your video.

Thank you for getting emotional. I lost my mother 10 years ago, but when I cook her recipes I feel as though she’s next to me in the kitchen.

For anyone who's never made their beans with epazote: do it. When I moved to LA, I noticed that the grocery store across the street from me carried it fresh, and decided to use it in my beans for the first time. I realized this was the flavor i'd been missing in my beans for YEARS, and now I can't make them without it.
