  I'm 63 and I grew up on the REAL Chicago, a rock band with horns.  For me, Chicago's best was the Terry Kath era of '67-'78, he was criminally underrated by the media, but musicians knew better.

  I grew up with Chicago. I was 14 when Terry died. I was lying in bed, listening to the radio when I heard, “One of the members of the group Chicago . . .” and I smiled because they were my favorite rock group. Then I heard, “ . . . has accidentally killed himself.” I hit the dial. I didn’t want to hear any more and I kept thinking, “Not Terry. Not Peter. Not . . .” I turned the dial to another station where I knew the news would be coming. When I heard it was Terry, I was devastated. <br><br>While I tend to lean towards the early albums, there are songs I enjoy from the ‘80’s. I saw Chicago in concert in the mid-‘80’s and screamed the whole time. No, it wasn’t the Chicago I grew up with but it was Chicago. :)

  I grew up listening to the music of Chicago. Terry&apos;s voice and monster guitar works made them unmistakably distinctive. I remember first hearing on TV, of Elvis Presley&apos;s death in 1977, and then five months later.... Terry Kath&apos;s untimely death. I knew it was Terry specifically because he had a soul that pierced through the music, to the listener, and I knew that he was the heart and soul of the band. He put a big piece of himself into everything he sang and played on.... His legendary musicianship lives on forever through his music.... RIP Terry. Thanks for being a major part to the soundtrack of our lives!!

  I like the older Chicago. Their music was just so unique. They went downhill after Terry Kath death.

  I was 19 when he died. Me and my best friend growing up in the mid 70’s watch their tv specials they had in ‘73-4?, I think was the year. Anyhow I always knew terry was a tremendous guitarist. One of the very best in my book. I miss him to this day

  The early instrumental albums were amazing. I was never into pop or ballads so the early albums are the only ones that I ever listen to. Sadly most people only think of syrupy sanitized eighties Chicago. He deserves more recognition for the great guitarist that ranks up high on the all time great’s list
