  I got mine in 1974. It was a nickel plate steamer and it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I still have it. Every year I asked for either track or cars. I'm just starting to get back into it. Gotta keep the trains running

  The Lionel set I started out with was a 1938 Lionel set with a 1689E loco and three passenger cars. My mom paid $100 for it and gave it to me as a Christmas gift in 2019. While I've never ventured into the later years of Lionel, I always enjoy your videos as they often explain things that apply to earlier trains.

  No fancy microchips, no bluetooth, just pure electromechanical joy and fun. I got to say, the Trains and Trucking sets made a LOT of sense, especially at the time, and I wish they still made sets like that. When I was a boy, late 1980s into the 1990s, sets came with crates, sometimes a bridge, something extra. Even a sprue of crates adds a lot to a set's play value, though when I was a boy, Legos, Lincoln Logs, and Tinkertoys all went for rides on my trains.

  What perfect timing for this video. I just returned from my dad’s house to get his first train set running. He got it for Christmas in 1941. It was lead by a Lionel 1664 steamer. He ran the wheel off of it. Like the steam locomotive sets at the end of your video the play value was that the engine was bulletproof. It made his day to see it run just like he remembered. Keep up the great videos.

  It&apos;s a shame Lionel doesn&apos;t try starter sets like these again. So much play value! All missing from the entry-level of the hobby.

  I still have my Silver Star, which was a Christmas gift when I was 8. It is packed away, and I really need to get it back out!
