  Fun video for aspiring homelabbers, but you really should have at least explained static IPs. People might be confused when their server IP changes and they cannot reach it anymore until they figure out the new address.

  Even though I&apos;m the tech guy of the family and everyone would seek my help for computer related problems, they&apos;d rather throw away their old hardware instead of giving it to me for free.

  Only 7 years?? One of my still functioning laptops dates back to the early 2000s. It runs Linux, because of course it does.

  Some additional info, that might be useful:<br>1. Those older laptops, like the one in the video, often have optical drives. You can buy cheap adapter/caddy, that will convert this bay to another 2.5&quot; SATA slot. This way you can add more storage or make current storage redundant.<br>2. Turn off Secure Boot. Most Linux distros does not work well or even boot with Secure Boot enabled, so disable it in BIOS. Keep UEFI mode on.<br>3. CasaOS has not been updated since December of 2024. While officially project is not dead or suspended, the company behind it is focusing all its efforts on the new product, which is ZimaOS. Future of CasaOS is unclear, so there&apos;s no guarantee that it will ever be updated.

  Honestly switching a windows 7 laptop over to a linux OS makes that thing feel brand new. &nbsp;It truly is amazing what the bloat of windows can do to a machine.
