  The purpose of the “paragons” is to present goodness without any internal conflict. The question they are intended to answer is not the usual one of “will this character do the right thing?” but is “what is the right thing to do?”. To put it another way, if every character is of uncertain moral fiber the distinction between good and evil is ambiguous, but if there exists some ideal entity then all others can be evaluated against it. They are the point around which ALL stories revolve: without the “paragons” no other character is interesting.

  I mean, every hero is a paragon by that logic because they’re doing things above and beyond what the average person would do. They may not be perfect, but definitely a hero.

  Paragon heroes do change, constantly.... You&apos;re just pretending they don&apos;t because you have a short attention span.<br><br>In the 1980&apos;s in BATMAN: THE CULT batman killed people constantly, fired machine guns into crowds and stole picnic baskets 🧺 to eat the hard boiled eggs out of them without removing the shells..... Then in the 2010&apos;s he magically developed a background of having been a ninja... And he had kids. <br><br>Everything changes constantly, you&apos;re just not paying attention.

  So an idea I had was a paragon who runs on the default idea that everyone else is as good as the paragon is. And in that mindset attempts to justify everyone else&apos;s actions as good. The story then runs on us seeing them being wrong over and over until they are finally right. Until the vilain reforms.

  Every hero needs a villain to oppose and someone to protect. Every anti-hero needs a villain to oppose someone to protect and a another hero to act as a foil.
