I Learned This Baggage Trick From A Handler | Now I Do It Every Flight!

A baggage handler taught me a suitcase trick that takes less than a minute, and it completely changed how I prepare my luggage before a flight. In this video, I'm sharing 25 practical checked baggage tips that can help you avoid common luggage problems, from removing old airline tags and checking your baggage code to handling connecting flights, delayed bags, damaged luggage, and missing baggage. You'll learn: • Why you should remove old airline tags and barcode stickers • Why checking the three-letter airport code matters • What to ask when you have a connecting flight • Why separate tickets can create separate baggage journeys • How much time to allow for reclaiming and rechecking a bag • Why you shouldn't check your luggage at the last possible minute • Why fewer connections can mean fewer baggage handoffs • How to keep track of baggage claim records • Why you should keep your baggage receipt • How to identify your suitcase correctly at the carousel • What to do if your suitcase arrives open or damaged • Why a luggage tracker is useful but not a substitute for an airline report • What to do when your checked bag doesn't arrive • When to ask about delayed baggage delivery • Why you should save receipts for essential purchases • How significant baggage delays can affect checked-bag fees • What to know about TSA-recognized locks • Which valuables should never go in checked luggage • How to secure loose straps, hooks, and external items • How to safely pack sharp objects and permitted aerosols The final tip is especially important if your suitcase doesn't arrive at the carousel. Sources and guidance used in this video include the U.S. Department of Transportation, TSA, FAA PackSafe, and a baggage-handler interview published by Condé Nast Traveler.
