What an honest conversation .Thank you Isabella for sharing your story. As an autistic woman myself, I found it very informative regarding the different treatments you were given and the effects they had on your brain. I've heard that 92% of autistic women have PMDD. This has probably never been researched to understand why ,which means many will be living in turmoil, not knowing what's happening and therefore not getting the right treatment. This needs to change.

Firstly , thank you to Isabella for sharing such a difficult time in her life.🙏🏻 This conversation is so informative and one to be shared amongst friends and family. Even if someone doesn’t have pmdd, it still empathises how powerful hormones can be . Thank you.

My wife sent me this and I almost didn’t get around to watching it. But I’m so glad I did! My daughter has been suffering so much with what may be PMDD. I am getting her to watch this and then having a discussion about it. Thanks so much for this info!

It’s so sad that is women still have to fight or waste our life fighting for help I’m 58 and I’ve been on HRT for the pasted 6 yrs and I’ve finally been able to come off antidepressants after 30yrs of mental health due to my periods. I spent years going back and forth to my doctors telling them this not depression I fill terrible around my periods but was never listen to just given yet more antidepressants I’m still fighting now due to still having monthly bleeds at 58

Thank you so much Louise for having these dialogues. I was diagnosed with PMDD in my 20s but had been having symptoms since I was a teenager. It took me many years to get a sub-clinical diagnosis of hypothyroidism/hashimotos which many doctors don't want to medicate in the UK. However when I eventually went on levothyroxine, many of my PMDD symptoms calmed down or went away. I'm on HRT for residual pmdd symptoms which I can't take without levothyroxine. I literally can't process the extra hormones without adequate T4 and T3. I am part of a subset of women with PMDD who are having their sub-clinical thyroid issues ignored. It's really frustrating that women are offered levothyroxine for pregnancy but not wellbeing! Dr Daly, a psychiatrist in Dublin is one of the few doctors to talk about this issue connecting hypothyroidism to PMDD symptoms. He suggests approx 1 in 5 pmdd patients would do well with added levothyroxine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5ras3wcbAc

I woke up to this podcast after researching how I can can get proper help for my daughter who has suffered ADHD since a child, and PMDD for many years. She is now 44 and still suffering this monthly durge. We cannot afford private but desperately need help for her.A few years ago she was given Prostrap injections which she had to stop, then things just got worse. She was rushed into hospital last year with an abcsess in/on her ovary, they pumped her full of antibiotics, which saved her, but there is now that fear it will return. Any advice would be so gratefully received; we live in the north of uk

I love what Isabella said likening the su. ideation to other natural drives like hunger. The crazy thoughts feel completely natural amd logical! One time I was so grumpy that there weren't govt funded, drop-in, 'exit' clinics all over the country where you could go and have a quick, no questions asked, guaranteed exit, with no risk of mucking it up and waking up the next day maimed or ill! I was so angry! It was perfectly sensible yet people were left having to try and do it the hard way.

It is a difficult condition, falling in between the siloed professions of reproductive endocrinology, gynaecology, psychiatry and general medicine. They each know their little part and not the interplay between everything. And that's if they have even heard of it! For something that affects one in 20 women, the medical profession is astonishingly unaware of it. And it is worse amongst people with ADHD, to the point that any menstruating person diagnosed with one should be automatically screened for the other.
