Wild to think about how the whole story of the original game of thrones show was a mere minor regional conflict

I just want to shout out the attention to detail GRRM had when doing this. Just like the real world civilizations prospered, spread out, got displaced by stronger civilizations, built monuments, and then died. He built a world this large where the culture and religion is a reflection of the geography, flora, fauna, magic, history of the area (eg. unexplained monuments), and history of the people (the andals, first men, etc.). All of the cultures make sense considering their surroundings and history and how all the civilizations interact over history makes sense. With the bonus that he tells us all of this through the perspective of people in Westeros and everything makes further sense when you consider that likely every source of information is an unreliable narrator just like real world history and science during the Middle Ages told through the perspective of Europeans. The world building will never cease to amaze me and I just hope we keep getting more from the mind of GRRM himself

i have another theory for the sun chaser , maybe it did find a large continent but then instead of turning back to talk of their finding they decided to follow the coastline of it and then look if there was anything even further west making them reach at some point Esos from the east

Leng is a reference to HP Lovecraft's Dreamlands (the Plateau of Leng specifically), and Carcosa is from Robert W Chamber's book The King in Yellow, eventually imported by others into the Cthulhu mythos.

Would be pretty badass to get some content set in Asshai and Stygai, it's a fascinating place. Too bad no one went there in the shows. Maybe one day

Southoryos sounds like how Spain and other European nations first described North and South America so i wonder if there is an Aztec-style civilization there

How has no one put it together that Westeros functions as both america and Britain. The first migration to Westeros happened 12 000 years ago. You might think it's random since we estimate our migration happened between 20 000-30 000 years ago. BUT Game of Thrones was released in 1996, at that time the Clovis first theory was the most popular and it stated that humans first crossed over to america 11 000-13 000 years ago. There shouldn't be another landmass because it doesn't make sense for there to be one. I think there may be "more" land, especially since the north eastern edge looks a bit like Chukotka but I think 1. it won't be disconnected from Essos in the same way Asia is from the US 2. It'll be connected to the lands of always winter in westeros

That's crazy that this just recently came out. I have watched GOT and HOTD since they started, but just begun getting more interested in the actual geography and languages. Thanks, this was very interesting.
