  You forgot to mention the roman manica, some of them use to protec the back of the hand and the ones used by gladiators protected all the hand.

  As always, defense adapts to offence. <br>Gauntlets were simply not as important due to the fighting style during certain eras; but as time progressed, different weapons and techniques were being used, armor evolved, making the use of gauntlets more prevalent.
