  Repentance and rebirth are closely connected, and Scripture often presents them as happening together in conversion.

  I scoffed at the notion that I was a sinner all my life. I was shaking my fist at God right up to the moment he extended his mercy and brought me to faith. By his grace, in a single moment,  I knew Jesus was my lord and savior. In that moment, I caught a glimpse Gods holiness and pictured Jesus suffering on the cross in my place. I could see (at least in part) how broken and sinful I truly was. I immediately fell into a state of repentance. Recognizing my sin and repenting was one of the most, if not the most joyful experience of my life. I remember thinking "I thought I was supposed to do that first" Hard for me to put into words. God loved me first. Amazing Grace!

  I can’t wait to hear what you say. I’ve struggled with this question and after 3 1/2 decades in the faith I believe it means change your mind.

  Thanks Jon.  I always thought the "clean yourself up then come to Christ" was an odd message.  "Decluttering the gospel" is a great tagline for Theocast, I just wish more folks could see you aren't against things like repentance/obedience/holiness, but trying to put them in proper place and understanding.

  One of the greatest counterfeits to living like Jesus is trying to be like Him without Him.<br><br>We can spend our lives trying to live better, sin less, love more and serve more, while quietly relying on ourselves.<br><br>It can look very spiritual. Yet where is our dependence upon Christ?<br><br>Jesus said, “Apart from Me you can do nothing.” — John 15:5<br><br>The Christian life isn&apos;t Christ helping us become good enough through our own efforts. It is Christ Himself as our Life.<br><br>Grace doesn&apos;t save us and then step aside. Grace trains us. The Spirit supplies the power. Christ produces the fruit as we abide in Him.<br><br>He is sufficient. We are not.<br><br>So trust Him more. Yield to Him. Depend upon Him.<br><br>And discover the peace, joy and relaxed life of Christ in us—the hope of glory.
