  I now spend half my time in coastal California (zone 10) where 6 ft wood fences are standard for at least some privacy. The other part of the year I spend in southern Wisconsin (zone 5b), where such fences are considered unfriendly. What they have instead are 4 ft chain link monstrosities. Planting a living fence is my only hope for not living in a fishbowl, while still being thought of as friendly to my &quot;midwestern nice&quot; neighbors. And I’m a senior, so fast-growing is important. 😁 Thank you for all the good info.

  Keller Texas (DFW area) thanks for the info. Wanted a tall fence as the Texas weather has destroyed 2 fences in 15 years. Needed a new one for 15 years until this came along. THANKS thought a 7’ tree fence would put me in the poor house for watering. You have given me options I had nit consider. Keep up the good work.

  The problem I see is, planting in windy areas can be very dangerous. Tree falling can &nbsp;make big damages. Short trees planted near the house is preferable.

  I planted Alaska cedars along one side of my house to block the view of my neighbor&apos;s unattractive house, &nbsp;I&apos;ve also planted the entire perimeter with a variety of native plants that provide privacy, wax myrtle, twinberry shrub, current bushes, oregon grape, &nbsp;California lilac, incense cedar. &nbsp;Natives don&apos;t require much work after the first 2 years. &nbsp;Wax myrtle and the Alaska cedars are my favorites.
