  <b>UPDATE</b> Since this video was recorded early last month, Synology has rolled out the Diskstation NEO series. It&apos;s essentially the 2 AND 4 bay Ryzen V1500B systems from before, but the RAM has been switched to more affordable non-ECC RAM, as well as. being dropped from 8GB to 4GB in the case of the 5 Bay and 8 Bay systems.   The bigger issue for me is not just the hard-drive whitelisting or post-processing dedupe/compression. It is the direction of the product &amp; changing terms around the ecosystem.DSM was a huge advantage years ago. Today, the storage engine underneath and the terms around the ecosystem matter much more than the UI on top.And calling “Storage Efficiency” a new feature when dedupe + compression is something the industry has been doing for 15+ years… that says a lot ! *RIP*.

  I think they have it wrong on the shift from end-user, or pro-sumer level gear, and focusing on the enterprise. I&apos;ve worked at several companies that implemented enterprise-level gear because an IT staff member had a Synology device at home, had great experience with it, and recommended a higher-performance, enterprise-level device for our employer. I think if they continue to alienate the home and small office/home office users, their enterprise adoption will start to fall off.

  Synology showed their hand. A basic &apos;We&apos;re sorry&apos; doesn&apos;t change their goals. It&apos;ll take multiple years of good faith work on their end to restore their brand in my eyes, which they haven&apos;t even started to do.

  Too right mate, Synology is more than serviceable and fit for purpose for many use cases and users. &nbsp;However, their missteps have put many off. &nbsp;I prefer UGreen now and while I do indeed use the native UGOS Pro there remains the option to install another OS of choice. &nbsp;You simply can’t do that with Synology and my old DS1815+ stuck on DSM 7.2.2 laments that fact.

  Ditched my 2 synology boxes for unraid. &nbsp;Don&apos;t think I&apos;m going back now....unraid is amazing.
