The Death of Modern Tag Fighters

I think the bigger issue in this vid is not exclusive to tag fighters, a lot of modern fighting games forget the GAME part. SF6 succeded in large part because of World Tour. Just having online multiplayer and a barebones arcade ladder doesn't cut it. Strive only got away with it because it was the start of lockdown and we were desperate for a game with good rollback. It's not gonna happen again, these fighters need to have better offline content or they'll keep perishing.

Discussions about these games failing are getting more attention than the games ever did themselves.

At this point, it really is just Street Fighter 6 that is ruling in this so called new golden age of fighting games.

Lack of strong single player content is the number one culprit.

Even as someone who casually engages in competitive and online matches, I found myself enjoying SF6 the most due to world tour. It’s not super amazing or anything, but it’s a fun enough variation to keep your interest, specially the customization aspect of it, not just visually speaking with the avatar being able to be a monstrous abomination, but also picking and choosing different specials and base moves, finding combos that only work with your combinations, going into tournaments with CPUs, exploring the world, fucking TEXTING CHUN-LI, it was infinitely more fun than just having slight modifiers on battles, like so many single player modes in fighting games have.

Also you gotta understand that the console market is incredibly screwed up. The prices are more expensive than they were when they launched and the casuals see those prices and say screw that. So those casuals arent buying the modern tag games cause they dont even have a console period.

honestly, what fighting games need these days is some form of offline feature that keeps people playing the game and improving at their own pace. It isn't fun having to jump straight into online and having your teeth kicked in by someone while you barely even know how to do even the most basic of combos. The arcade mode can only do so much and that mostly teaches you how to cheese the CPU not real players. Single player content that both teaches you and immerses you into the world is what keeps casual players around not overly simple controls. While yeah simple controls help casual players need more than that. Hardcore players are the easiest to please, give them good netcode and good characters that are somewhat balanced and you'll be golden in most cases. Casual players? not so much.

Anyone who thought hunterxhunter was gonna last for more then a month was smoking crack. Invincible vs might have had a longer life but I wouldn't have expected it.
