Swing by my city (Toronto) and convince the city council to put one of these on the CN tower. It averages 75 strikes a year. Enough to make it worth pointing a camera at during every thunderstorm.

A year without a strike and I'll have a Sertec on my mast in a New York minute.

A hard story to share, but easiest path to earth related: years ago here in country Australia a workmate (friend) had just bought a new block of farm land. It had a gentle slope up to a line of trees, basically a small forest, stringy bark gums, all about the same height. A storm started forming and he (and his pup) took shelter under one of the trees. He was squatting leaning with his back against the tree, and sadly lightening chose for some reason to hit that one tree (back to this). The lightening tore down the tree and exited about 3 feet from the actual earth, that was the point it entered the back of his head, it killed him and his dog instantly. The crazy aspect is that in spite of all the other trees in near vicinity it chose this one as it was likely his body that created the final easiest most efficient path to earth. Crazier still that at an atomic level all this was rationalized in an instant by the science of lightening, the physics…, 😢, I had personally seen the very small point in the tree where it chose it didn’t need to go any further… 😢🙏

It works? Well, yeah. When I got my driver's license, my grandmother gave me a magnetic Christopherus badge, for awareness and protection against accidents. I put it on my fridge and it worked amazingly! My fridge never broke down and never crashed into another fridge until this very day!

I grew in a lightning-prone area (the Plains Region of southwest Georgia), so when my parents built a new house on a hill, they installed lightning rods on the roof. My bedroom overlooked the garage roof, and I spent so many hours watching that rod light up during storms.

Was canoeing on Bowron Lakes, BC when a storm blew in. No where to hide, pouring buckets, wind whipping around, stood under a tree so I wasn’t the tallest thing around 🫣🥶, all of a sudden heard a massive lightning crack then BOOM and felt the compression of the thunder blowing right down through the tree. Almost blew me off my feet. Not sure where the lightning hit but it wasn’t that tree.

Great video, i enjoy learning about all the different aspects of boat life and your way of presenting it is great. Respect to Jamie for going up the mast. I send my girlfriend up, I am petrified of heights and can't overcome my fear.
