They are from here, "Abba land", small Sweden. Same with Roxette, Avicii, Ghost, Sabaton etc. Fun fact, Europe got famous after winning the first rendition of the televised competition "Swedish Rock Championships" on Swedish public tv and also radio. They won a record deal

This was Europe's big hit from 1986... 'The Final Countdown' was their 3rd album, coming out of Sweden, which sold 3 million copies in the US. Europe joined the club of 80's arena rock bands like Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Journey, Def Leppard, etc... Unfortunately, when Europe went to record their 4th album 'Out of this world' in 1988, people wanted a 'Final countdown Pt. 2'... and they couldn't do it - that record sold 1 million copies... the 5th album 'Prisoners in paradise' in 1991 couldn't even sell a half million copies in the US... Europe broke up in 1992.

Europe was formed as a hard rock band in Sweden by lead vocalist Joey Tempest... guitarist John Norum, bassist John Leven & drummer Tony Reno were the original band signed in 1982... The self-titled Europe album in 1983 and 'Wings of tomorrow' in 1984 were released... a single 'Rock the night' helped Europe secure an international record deal in 1985. 'The Final Countdown' was released in 1986 and became a global hit single and album... Ian Haughland joined on drums, Mic Michaeli was added on keyboards for the record.
However, after the album's success, guitarist John Norum quit Europe... replaced by guitarist Kee Marcello. After 2 more albums by 1991 and unable to repeat the success of 'Final countdown', Europe ended in 1992.

In 2004, Europe opted to reunite 'The Final Countdown' line-up - Joey Tempest, John Norum, John Leven, Ian Haughland & Mic Michaeli... and released the album 'Start from the dark'. Since then, Europe has been recording albums and touring consistently. Their most recent record was 'Walk the Earth' in 2017.
