  I also feel like them cutting out several scenes showing how Elphaba is struggling with loneliness and showing how it’s all truly affecting her did such a disservice to her character

  Glinda somehow fixing/ending racism with one announcement is one of the most tone-deaf &quot;white savior&quot; BS story beats I&apos;ve ever heard. The Animals couldn&apos;t make it happen and neither could animal-sympathizing humans (especially not green ones), they just needed a wealthy white celebrity from a respected family to do it for them. And it being apparently THAT easy to fix is an insult both to Elphaba&apos;s entire struggle, and everyone IRL who&apos;s lived with oppression and marginalization and chose to fight it.<br>I&apos;d somehow blocked that scene from my memory until you reminded me of it in this video, so thank you.

  I got part of the way through the second movie before texting my gf at the time to ask &quot;Are we supposed to like Glinda???&quot;. I tried twice and couldn&apos;t finish it. I&apos;m not bothered that Glinda was the bad guy. Her arc makes sense for her character. What bothers me is how the movie constantly tries to portray her in this light of &quot;aww it&apos;s okay though, she&apos;s pretty and white and sweet&quot;. That should not be the message. The message should be that she&apos;s human but her actions are not okay and while we can sympathise with her, she&apos;s not the hero. She&apos;s not good. She&apos;s wicked.

  One last weird choice in this movie that I think about all the time: They gave fiyero a talking Animal horse in the first movie. He talks to him, they banter like friends, and presumably they have known each other for a long time. After the timeskip, the horse is still Fiyero&apos;s horse... and he never talks again. There could be so much to explore in the idea that Fiyero&apos;s Horse Friend got caged and can&apos;t talk anymore, and Fiyero let it happen, Glinda let it happen, or maybe it was used against them, or SOMETHING, but no. Interesting plot thread left in the DUST - I actually was really hopeful in the first movie introducing Fiyero having an Animal relationship, because then it could pay off in the second movie, but. I guess not!

  I watched it in the theater with a few of my colleagues, and after the movie I overheard one of them say &quot;Why did the evil witch lady steal Fiyero from Glinda??&quot;. I was so shocked because I wondered if we watched the same movie. People love pitying Glinda because the movie makes her extremely sympathetic when she should be morally grey. I guarantee if Glinda wasn&apos;t played by Ariana Grande, then people wouldn&apos;t be sympathizing with her as easily. I won&apos;t even go into how people treat Cynthia compared to Ariana.

  No one can tell me that Glinda wasn&apos;t declawed like this just because shes the popular pretty pink princess character played by Arianna Grande that girls will instinctively latch onto. Completely going against the original point of having Glinda be a pretty princess character that teaches girls to look beyond that label because not all pretty princesses are GOOD or should be blindly believed and followed from the get-go :/

  This video made me feel a lot less insane for feeling like something was tonally off with the movie. The movie completely missed the mark when it came to confronting Glinda and her complacency and complicity in propping up a fascist regime. She quite literally builds her public facing personality on the back of her best friend. The movie consistently presents them as yin and yang- with horrid, monstrous depictions of Elphaba and beautiful, princess-like depictions of Glinda side by side. So many people missed Glinda’s wickedness because of the way the movie packaged her- pink, glittery, and so naive that she can’t be held accountable at all. In today’s political climate, it feels a bit disgusting to not make people confront Glinda’s privilege and her complacency to serve as a mirror. <br><br>I feel like I’ve been fighting for my life trying to make hardcore movie Glinda stans understand that Glinda did not deserve to know Elphaba and Fiyero were alive. That her penance for her complicity is losing the two people who genuinely knew her and cared for her. I also hate that the Grimmerie opened for her at the end. It would have been more effective to have her make amends but never be rewarded with magic for it.

  I had my reservations when they cast Ariana as Glinda because I feared they would market Wicked as “Ariana is Glinda, isn’t that awesome.” And while they did relatively well with giving Cynthia her due in the first film, the second film makes her basically a secondary character in her own story. Then they had the audacity to write Glinda as a well-intentioned air head who just doesn’t understand politics when Glinda clearly does (thats the whole point of Popular), I felt all the more vindicated for not trusting the process.

  I was really frustrated that Glinda&apos;s confrontation with Morrible was moved to a separate office scene instead of remaining in March of the Witchhunters. That dialogue hits much harder when she&apos;s forced to smile and wave at the consequences of her actions
