The Wall was released in 1979 . The movie was released in 1982. This is not a video, it’s a scene from the movie based on the Pink Floyd iconic album.

Give yourself the gift of sitting down and listening to The Wall in its entirety - from start to finish. It's an experience you won't regret.

💯 This song is still relevant to today's education system but for completely different reasons. "Hey! Teacher! Leave those kids alone!!"

This is the era that was telling us about things to watch out for. Never did I think it would happen in my lifetime, but here we are living what they always sang about. You know what I mean.

The little boy is 'Pink', the poem that's ridiculed by the teacher is part of the lyrics to 'Money' a hit by Pink when he later becomes a rockstar, 'Another Brick in the Wall' is the imagination of the young Pink, in response to the teachers ridicule, again it becomes a hit for the rockstar grown up 'Pink'.

The Wall was a double album that told a single story in 26 songs. The album was made into a feature length movie. This is from the movie. Do yourself a favor and listen to the entire album, while reading the lyrics. You don’t have to react to it, but you will understand what a concept album can be. It’s impressive.

Pink Floyd’s The Wall was a concept album that told a story. This is a scene from the movie The Wall starring Bob Geldof member of Irish rock band The Boontown Rats and the organizer of Live Aid.

Most people in the baby boom and following generation were meant to end up working in factories. Daydreaming or any type of creativity was not seen as helpful towards this goal. Only the wealthy were encouraged to ponder deep and creative thoughts. Those of us growing up in the 1960's were still thought of as the future factory workers. The middle class was just starting to make headway in society. Creativity was stiffed. The methods used to teach us was proven to squelch creativity. Only some of us managed to hold onto them despite our schooling. Hence the idea of the factory in the video.
At the same time, corporeal punishment in he schools was coming into scrutiny. Teachers in the 60's were known to hit and/or slap children for all sorts of reasons. I watched a nun slap a kid, in front of his parent, because he didn't understand the process that would allow him to answer correctly. (His parents were fine with his slap from the nun. So, once again, the music video shows this as the way to train future factory workers. (Ironically, making bricks was a factory job too.)
No one really understood, or even understands, that having a creative mind as a factory worker may help the company develop cheaper and faster production.
But the ending of the video scares most because the children/factory workers destroy the school - a belief that children without consequences will end up damaging our society. There needs to be a middle ground between societal norms and teaching the whole child to be their best.
We also see the burning of books with the school. Book burning has to do with sensorship. Look at the past ten years. Do we throw out all the facts we have come to know throughout the centuries of accumulation? Do we sensor books? Do we let go of preparing children for future jobs?
The train could be recalling Nazi Germany as well. That's yet a deeper dive.
As it is we are left still trying to sort out which is the best and most humane way to educate our youth, to raise our children.
And lastly, this is a British Band commenting on the British schooling of their time.

You need to listen to the whole album to understand each song. The album shows so much of the trauma of WWII and it's after effects on young children in th UK.

My father's first grade teacher beat him so badly for being slow at math, that to the day he died he would get the shakes just attempting to balance his checkbook. For people that lived through something like that, this song held special meaning.
