I was surprised to see that you didn't try the fan first using your bench power supply Vince, if it worked on your bench power supply you would have definetly known if ir was the power adapter

I like to imagine that Vince has an entire blast shield when he plugs in dodgy adapters. Hes so cautious!

Should be a 3 or 5 amp fuse in the mains plug, mistake by the manufacturer there, I see you have Big Clive's 'vice of knowledge' there! You needed his X-ray hammer too!🤣🤣

Some people would have just bought a power supply and job done. Not my mate Vince, great video really really enjoyed that one. Thank you

That's a nice piece of machinery, nicer in my opinion than the fancy-pants devices that Dyson pushes out.

Friday evening Vince video = perfect start to the weekend.

It is a diode. So remember it allows current one way. So if the bottom left diode is shorted then there is a complete path for AC to go. That is why you get readings on a diode one way but not the other.

Vince went straight from "let me see if I can get into this power brick" to "this plug needs to die"

"I know you sick lot will want to see this explode again" - 39:50 - says the man who complained earlier in the video about the lack of blue flames 😁😄 Another very interesting video Vince - I always love watching you try to work through the fault and its causes. But I admit to being rather frustrated that you used elastic bands to hold the adapter together for the epoxy, rather than putting it back in the vice 😜

Hi Vince, thanks for the video.
FYI, even if one of the diodes were short, it means you have a diode right across the mains supply !! The forward voltage of the rectifier is only 0.6 Volts so its just like a direct short to the one half cycle of the mains supply. With regards to the diode value remember the mains supply is 240VAC RMS not peak value !! The reason the diode should be rated 1000 Volts is because, a standard 240VAC residential electrical service is typically an RMS voltage measurement. This means the voltage waveform has an RMS value of 240 volts, but the peak voltage would be higher, around 339 volts,. The peak-to-peak voltage would be approximately 678 volts (2 x 339). Transient mains spikes can easily take the voltage way up approaching 1000V. Never down grade component ratings, and when buying replacement components always buy the higher rated replacement in the range. For example don't buy 1N4004 buy1N4007 and be ready for any required substitute situation.
.The original fault might have been a lightning strike !!
The high voltage would jump the gap between the AC input to the rectifier and blown/burned the tracks away Don't assume the user applied the correct voltage to the device, either unintentionally or intentionally. I've seen damage like this from lightning strikes. If that was the case it could very easily weaken or damage the rectifier as well as burning the tracks away.

I have seen a bridge rectifier where all four diodes test OK, but there is still a short between the AC pins. I think maybe all the diodes share a common substrate, and therefore a short can develop anywhere.

Have you tried a dim bulb tester? It is just an incandescent bulb in series with the device under test. If there is a short, the bulb lights up, but no fuses blow. If there is no short, the bulb stays off or glows dimly. Saves you from spending several fuses, and also allows you do measurements while a small current is flowing.
