Hi if you are going to use a sealant . putting it on the threads is no good. The joint is made between the flare and the male part of the union so that is where the sealant should be applied .👍

little tip. When releasing the line from the service port. Push on the line. Undo the collar, then release the line. You don't loose quite so much gas.

Many aircon engineers apply Nylog to the joints. And Nylog themselves say to apply a drop to the flare, and to the threads. Also the Schrader inlet port valves are prone to leak even when new. So Nylog the cap, and the cap on the the 2-way valve, just in case that leaks too.

Propane isn't going to cause an explosion outside. You could open the valve on a 500g propane canister and put a naked flame six inches from it, and nothing would happen. You need a container (i.e. a room) to fill with propane and air, to have an explosion. The only way to get it to burn when it was exiting the pipe near the beginning of the video, would be to hold a lighter to it, and then it would only burn outside of the pipe, because it needs oxygen to burn. So it's completely safe to work on pipes like this outdoors, which is why there are no pipe connections on the indoor parts.

My Electriq unit leaked at the connection to the lower charge port on the outside unit. Revealed by Pressure Testing with Nitrogen, and spraying all the connections with Leak Test. A slight tighten stopped the leak and the unit held pressure overnight.
I warmed up the 380g R270 cannister when filling seemed to have ceased at around 200g, by immersing in a jug of hot water.
Don't do that to a cannister that is not connected to the aircon, the increased pressure must have somewhere to go !
That way I got 300g out of the first canister, so had to top up with a second cannister.
With hindsight 200g from two canisters would have done the trick !

You have a vent just beneath the sight glass. You push it like a button to purge your hose.

Thanks for sharing - I've just DIY'd my ElectriQ in time for the brief hot spell last week - the bit I was most fearing was the connections so I will be double checking these (remind me a lot of doing DIY brake lines!) but I always feared that I may need to refill one day so it doesn't feel quite so daunting - the soapy water check didn't reveal anything and I did the non-vacuum method! I also hooked it all up before thinking about trunking etc and now need to do that (another channel suggested square pipe which I'm having to split open but seems to be okay) The other bit is the excess pipework which is annoying me. I will be double checking my connections this weekend!

Not bad for doing the job as a DYA but I would have changed the filter dryer the way you need too. You did a ok job for a DYA.

Same problem on an r410 system when you could get them for self install and just squirt in a bit of extra gas, scientific lol. The UK won't let you import for 410A from the EU sellers now since brexit 😭 A lot of sense this is it's the easy fit versons I note they have R32 versions

No sealant. The seal is the flared copper surface (like in car brake lines). Get it right the first time. Sealant only hides a future problem - as you discovered.
