I love that this song shows that the two ideas of "you don't have to fight TO BE a man" and "sometimes you have to fight when you ARE a man" are not mutually exclusive. <br>I think the best response to this I ever heard was "he always turned the other cheek until it wasn't his cheek to turn"

this song proves that no person is 100% passive you can push someone so far but when you cross that line its on and thats usually a dangerous person at that point

Tommy did NOT realize he had to fight sometimes to be a man. Tommy knows he must fight this time because he IS a man. The distinction is subtle, but important.
