Troughton is my favourite Doctor. Love that era of the show. His chemistry with all of his companions is fantastic. Especially with Jamie. Best double act in the show’s history. As you said, this era was pure fun.

The Cybermen coming out of their hibernation chambers in Tomb of the Cybermen creeps me out, even as an adult.

Jamie is one of the best companions. As you said, he's uneducated, but he's not stupid. He's just a physical guy, a great compliment to Troughton's Doctor.

    “They must be fought.”

Not defeated or destroyed. The fight is the thing, regardless of outcome.

What a tragedy that almost all of Troughtons first 2 Seasons and parts of the third, are lost, most likely forever

I've always felt that Christopher Eccleston was the modern Patrick Troughton. He stepped in and made us believe, again. He made us realise all who came before were the Doctor. He opened the door so others could follow. Both of them anchored the character with their foibles and flaws. Pat & Chris, thank you. Oh, and thanks for the video.

so many great ones...The Invasion is a particular fav. Discovery of the long-missing "Enemy of the World" was one of the top points of the 50th anniversary, an amazing demonstration of Troughton's true talent, and an irregular episode that is a surprising delight. We are blessed to now have the animations even though some of the work is subpar and cheap looking. They are complete stories we didn't have before.

My first encounter with the 2nd Doctor was in 1972 in the first episode of the Three Doctors. I was 4 years old at the time and just loved him , by the time episode 4 came along and he left I remember crying my eyes out i asked my mother why he couldn't stay and keep on helping the present Doctor .

Everything about Troughton simply *works*. He can be moralistic without being a crusader, heroic without being bombastic, anxious without being a coward, childlike without being childish, jolly and humourous without being a buffoon, kindly without being patronising, emotive without being melodramatic. He's like the friend or father-figure you always wish you had, always eager for adventure, but underneath that brain is always working. He just hits all the right Doctor notes, just as Peter Capaldi does in his older, grumpier way in the modern era. No wonder so many commentors, self included, are citing Two as their favourite.

He was the least liked Doctor for decades. Over years as his stories were uncovered he rose in stature. Now we all know what a legend he was.

Patrick Troughton as the second Doctor is just AMAZING! He had such an excellent, expressive presence every time he was in shot and, to me, it feels like he was always doing SOMETHING, whether it be in the background or when he was the focus of the scene, and whether it be just simply thinking or playing his flute or something! It’s a REAL shame that Patrick is long dead and that so many of his episodes are lost (some forever while others might be in some old collector’s attic or cellar or whatever)

The friendship between Patrick and Fraser is what makes this era so amazing. I wish Patrick had listened to Fraser instead of his wife, and done one more year...
