  Loved all the "puppet" shows back then, Joe 90, Stingray, Fireball  and Thunderbirds but Captain Scarlet was the supreme hero. Still love him even though I'm now 62.

  The end title cards were the most frightening thing about this program.<br>The quicksand one really freaked me out.

  This one was my absolute favourite. Thunderbirds was also brilliant. The thing about Scarlett was you usually knew when someone was replaced by a Mysteron but the characters around them did not. The suspense in the show was palpable.<br><br>Add to these puppets the arrival of Action Man in my toybox and life was pretty well perfect.

  The thing that stuck with me was this: sometimes, the Mysterons won. That&apos;s a serious upset for standard SF adventure. The Thunderbirds never failed; everyone lived. In the War of Nerves, second episode, the Mysterons won. Captain Black was a violent creature: shooting people, crushing them against car lifts, drowning them, over and over , on and on. You never knew if Spectrum was going to make it to the end.
