  I have previously heard of Queen Marie of Romania but your presentation gave me a much better appreciation of the two World Wars and revolutions that swept though Europe and swept away the prestigious royal lives that had been.  She certainly was one of the most beautiful of Queen Victoria's granddaughters with obvious physical traits.  Russia and Great Britain heritage combined in one and such an interesting life bedecked with historical jewels.  Thank you for your post.

  Actually, George wasn't "quickly" betrothed to May of Teck. He paid for her to go to Paris for a year to avoid suggesting there was anything automatic about their engagement and to give her emotional space to  choose freely and be sure.

  In 1926 Queen Marie of Romania made a donation of various Romanian items to the Maryhill Museum in Washington state which she visited. This museum is extremely rural, perched on the high hillside above the famous Columbia River. Ive always been stunned that a European Queen was ever in so remote an area. There are a few personal royal items.

  Peoples were saved by their jewels,gemstones  in times of crisis, whether you're royals or  not .

  Marie did not marry her cousin George because her mother opposed the marriage. Firstly, they were first cousins and Orthodoxy prohibits marriages between them, than her mother did not like the British royals and she had a cold relationship with George's mother. Marie refused the marriage proposal.

  This narrator is just wonderful.  But that horribly repetitive piano, hideous!  This is an amazing woman!
