Hmm you are talking about Sophie, The Countess of Wessex before she became The Duchess of Edinburgh, so why are the majority of photos of The Princess Royal, Princess Anne? Besides, I think the majority of jewellery would be added to the Crown Jewels and passed from Monarch to Monarch so as to avoid Inheritance Tax aka Death Duties however the governments like to dress it up, instead of making the recipient pay tax. The Monarch of the day would allocate who wears what. I must admit that I don't remember Sophie wearing this necklace, please correct me if I am wrong showing a photo of her wearing it.

I think it is a symbolic way of saying Thank You for your friendship loyalty and the comfort to me when I needed it. Where it goes now? I am sure Sophie will choose wisely because she knows the jewels history and she will honor the crown.
