Built to last for one specific reason and although the railroad is long gone, these still serve their purpose. I'm curious as to your thoughts on that third tunnel...

Fun tour. Railroads needed a lot of water in the steam era. I would bet there was a water tower near the culvert that has the pipes in it and water was pumped to the tower. Also, the silver film on the water is natural iron bacteria, and probably not man made pollution. But still good you stayed out of it. :)

What an incredible adventure! Beautiful ride! I remember the first location well, that was such an awesome adventure, too. Even with limited visibility, the underwater footage is always fascinating. The beautiful stonework at the second location is one of them that reminds me of a castle corridor. Too bad the water was so nasty and stagnant, I wonder if the extreme summer heat is speeding up the decomposition and making it worse. Also, that stick definitely looked like a snake head coming out of the stone, that was a little bit startling lol. I really enjoyed this revisit! The third tunnel is also amazing, and I agree that the date on it indicates a renovation. The mix of original stonework and corrugated metal is the perfect evidence. Fantastic video once again, thank you JP!💙

Simple explanation for angled culvert path: Slipshod work. Digging Contractors were often local amateurs who happened to own mules and carts. Labor was cheap, so one side digging the wrong angle could be made to work with good Stonemasons to finish.
