  Regarding the uniform changes: he was almost certainly TAD&apos;ed (Temporary Assigned Duty) to the ODST squad and they gave him a spare set of matching armor to fit with the rest of the squad to help him blend in.<br><br>Regarding his rank &quot;changes&quot; early on: he probably wasn&apos;t demoted, as it&apos;s kinda hard to say he abandoned his post when his post was destroyed by the Covenant...he most likely was still a Gunnery Sergeant, and people shortened it to Sergeant or Sarge in the field, just like with our favorite Marine: Command Sergeant Major Avery J. Muchafuckin&apos; Johnson.
