it's funny how differently people can look at the same character. i found damon extreamly fun and entertaining because of his pessimism and i loved his internal monologues. for a similar reason hajime is one of my favorite characters in the whole series, i guess it's because if i were in a killing game i would be super paranoid. and also it's also really interesting to have an antagonistic protagonist.

Ulysses not being able to smell will 100% play a role in one of the cases

3:36 I always assumed that the reason behind V3's cast being very radical was (V3 spoilers, duh) because of how oversaturated the franchise became in the V3 universe. Having 53 seasons of a show would definitely result in repeating characters, tropes and themes, and the oversaturation of those, wouldn't you think?

I love your opinion of Damon! while i disagree with it and personally like his character and stance in the killing game I adore seeing his faults and flaws being called out like you did and seeing that others do see these flaws and dislike him because of it adds even more depth to the fandom, kinda tired of mc’s being everyone’s friends, people like Eloise genuinely disliking him and standing up to him is such a breath of fresh air from how all danganronpa games have the mc’s side and then a ‘villain’ student there being the only one that opposes them, sorry im rambling; TLDR I like that we have an MC that has polarized opinions by the fandom and I’m excited to see where the story goes and how other’s opinions on all the characters change

I think Damon will get a similar character arc like Byakuya, where they start off entitled and very dismissive of their classmates, but upon being proven they’re not the smartest one in the trials, or that they’re unable to be self sufficient by themselves and have to rely on the others to survive, their tones change. I think for Damon, something will happen where his understanding of his self worth is shattered and reforms him into a more compassionate protagonist.

It should also be noted that Damon is hinted to come from a low income background so he wears his talent like a badge. But uses it defensively to try and convince himself and other that he’s going to make it big or make a great change in the world.

That’s probably also why he prefers practical or classy styles in clothing and room design compared to the other students, to convince himself he’s really making it in the world and that his name is going to be associated with reform and greatness. This behavior is common but not universal in people who become massively successful from a poor or unremarkable upbringing.
