They made this same claim about the Constellation. They also referred to it as the best 3 engined plane flying.

This video made it sound like every DC-7 flight entailed an engine shutdown. The R3350 wasn't that bad, it just had to be run by the numbers. My Dad flew for United, he was copilot on the very first United DC-7 press flight from New York to San Francisco in 1954. He flew DC-7s up until 1964. He told me that in all that time, he NEVER had to shut down an engine in flight. I think he must have had very experienced flight engineers who knew exactly what they were doing!

Technically the author of this video is wrong the most complex engine bolted to a aircraft that was piston was the Pratt and Whitney R-4360 wasp major the Boeing 377 used them

Not even considering the engine oil that was used on each flight - Gallons spewed out the thing —— cool ! 🇺🇸💵

The Lockheed Constellation cabin was a foot WIDER than that of a DC-4, DC-6 and DC-7. Interestingly, both the Connie and the Douglas used almost identical wing airfoils. The nDC-4, 6 and 7 all mwere essentially the same airframe and wing, the difference was a continuing stretch of the fuselage from the DC-4's 93 feet to the DC-7C at 112 feet.

In the 1970's my business partner owned and flew a DC-7F 250 hours and never even changed a spark plug. it was maintenance free. The secret was it flying correctly and controlly CHT's tightly. He flew in all over Africa and Asia. It flew beautifully.

The joke at Zantop which flew DC-6 and 7 freighters was you know how to tell a DC-6 from a DC-7?
The DC-6 was a three bladed prop, four engine airplane while the DC-7 was a four bladed prop, three engine airplane

In 1954 at the age of 7, my first flight was on a TWA Constellation from London to NY. We stopped in Iceland to allow some passengers off. We didn't stay long. It seemed about 15 minutes. Once in NY we boarded a DC-6 to Atlanta where Dad met my mother, younger brother and me. All flights were quite smooth.

The noise level even opposite the engines was not objectionable. It was a low frequency rumble and you could not hear any noise from the PRTs.
