One day I'll get my recording setup working reliably. Sorry everyone: I bought a new camera but OBS seemingly had a Bad Day and its recording went funny after a while. Not quite sure why, but my laptop is old and cantankerous and probably struggling to keep up with video chat /and/ OBS recording. Perhaps an excuse to upgrade it!

In the 1980s we were protected from accidentally writing to the floppy disk instead of reading, by not being able to afford the floppy disk drive

oh the joys of days of ole, when all I had to do was call INT 13 to reboot a system without even having to go through POST.

Lindt once created an OS where the command line runs in user space, and the graphics in the kernel.

It had a hard outer shell and a GUI centre.

I think SWI OS_EnterOS is still valid in modern RISC OS on the Pi.

In a past life in the UK when Dixons used to sell C64's, there was (can't remember it now) a key combination that allowed you to place 'data' into memory. Me being me, decided to set up a never-ending loop that would lock the machine and frustrate the people working :) I seem to remember that there was an even simpler key combination on BBC Model B machines that caused problems in schools that had them. :)

Always thought there must be a way to get a 6502 to run in a protected mode, but it would require some kind of emulation or precompilation to look for all the stores, self modifying code.
