  I feel like James Rolf's enthusiasm about film is what is so satisfying. He doesn't exist in the academia perspective of film, but he is an enthusiast whose excitement is infectious.

  I completely agree with the Reading Rainbow comparison. Classic Monster Madness videos really got me into classic horror films of the 1950s to 80s. And reignite a love of original Universal Monster films and classic film history.  He might not be the most nuanced, but his enthusiasm was a great introduction for developing my own nuance.

In his book he mentions a boss he had who would always make racist and misogynistic jokes, says his boss reminded him of Donald Trump, and then says &quot;That was far before I thought such a vile man could ever become president.&quot; I also recall an old video where he showed off his movie tickets, which included him attending a speaking engagement with Michael Moore in the 2000s, I think during his college years. And there&apos;s an old YKWBS episode where he makes fun of people who get angry about the phrase &quot;Happy Holidays.&quot; From all that and his body of work, I get the impression that he&apos;s not a very political guy, but leans slightly liberal. For what it&apos;s worth, his wife is a bit more outspoken and angered a lot of reactionaries with an offhand joke on the Cinemassacre website calling Cinemassacre &quot;a caucasian sausagefest.&quot; I&apos;d also like to point out that he took the Ghostbusters 2016 controversy on the chin instead of using it as a launchpad to become a right-wing grifter guy.<br><br>That&apos;s partly because James is a guy who is surprisingly plugged out of online discourse and social media for an internet personality. He posts to Twitter about his own videos, and that&apos;s really it. Side Scrollers is hosted by Stuttering Craig, who if you recall was the head of ScrewAttack. ScrewAttack was the online network through which the Angry Video Game Nerd was distributed, which is how it was syndicated on GameTrailers in its golden years. It&apos;s honestly really likely that Craig called up his old friend James to get him on Side Scrollers and James, who probably doesn&apos;t listen to Side Scrollers or any other podcast, agreed to it for his old friend&apos;s sake. You could say it&apos;s irresponsible of him not to look into such things more, but that&apos;s a different matter than him being actively aligned with that right-wing outrage machine stuff.

  I didn&apos;t think you were going to tear into James, but I was not expecting how wholesome that wholesome turn was going to get. &nbsp;I think this is my favorite video of yours.

  He made a video comparing all versions of Dracula, and now every major adaptation of Frankenstein, on accuracy to the book. Hilariously, it made Cinemassacre a better film channel than others, now he needs to tackle Wuthering Heights lol.

  I kind of get the impression that James Rolfe understands why a movie is trying to get a message across, and knows what it is technically trying to communicate, but his critique of the message of films like Blade Runner is that he didn&apos;t get that message intuitively from watching the movie. It feels more like treating the medium like a language and less like a text that requires discussion.

  I&apos;ve never been a fan of Rolfe but this is a great video about him. His talk on nostalgia is beautiful, just the healthiest attitude to have on it and summed up in the best way possible.
