The US didn't ban lead paint until the 70s. For reference, France banned it in 1901. I genuinely think lead poisoning is a big explanation for a lot of this unhinged behavior from American older people.

Shaving a kid's head for what is likely normal kid mischief ensures that your son will not talk to you when they grow up. How does only one person see how awful that is?

Shaving off someone's hair, especially a woman's hair, has been a punishment throughout history for various things ranging from adultery to just talking out of turn. In Ancient Greece and Rome head shaving of both genders was used to denote the slave class. People can say it's "just hair" all they want to justify what is legally assault (yes, you can be charged with assault for cutting someone's hair) but it's something very obviously done to physically alter a person's appearance designed to humiliate them.

If the only punishment you can come up with as a parent is legally a type of assault you are failing at your job.

"I shaved my son's hair because I was so angry about some mistake of his. I overreacted." - "Oh, don't worry, we all make mistakes and he needs to learn that actions have consequences."
It's the hypocrisy that bothers me the most. Sure as an adult you can make mistakes without being held accountable. But not as a child. That's just unfair. She should shave her own hair for overreacting

Parents forcing a kid to shave is a big no-no. When I was a teenager my mom forced me to shave my legs AND to get my armpits waxed (I’m a trans guy and was never uncomfortable with my own body hair). I truly felt like I never had any bodily autonomy while I was growing up. I remember begging to get my hair cut β€œlike a boy” when I was a kid and my mom never let me β€” yet now that I’m in my late 20s, she has the audacity to deny all of it. Bruh.

Parents only seem to "remember what it was like to be your age" when it's convenient for them to use it against their children...

The hair thing is extremely traumatizing, and people don't understand. Imagine if for every time you did something mildy bad (a parking ticket, didn't return your shopping cart, late bill payment) the cops came into your house, held you down, and forcibly shaved your head. My father shaved my head because I got detention. I got detention for being late to class. It wrecked me as a child and it took me years to be ok.

I started developing body hair at a very young ageβ€”like 8 or 9β€”and my whole life my family tried to force me to shave. They repeatedly told me that "no one finds body hair attractive!" Why would a ten year old care if men or women found their body hair attractive?? (Not to mention a LOT of people like body hair anyway.)

"I'm refusing dialysis because of you." Lmao if someone wants to die of renal failure out of spite, that's their business. Don't come at me like I care. You're a child.

My mother threatened me with punishment haircuts and I told her that I would cut her hair without warning someday and in public. She didn't even think about it lol

You teach your children that this is a punishment, don't be surprised if they punish you someday
